We are thrilled to have won the much-vaunted LABC Building Excellence Award for 2017, for our first social housing development! On March the 29th 2017, at the LABC’s North Wales Awards, we were awarded the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development for our Llanfairfechan development, Maes Glanarfon – which is a development containing 17 one and two bedroom apartments, and 11 two and three bedroom houses.
What makes Llanfairfechan stand out among the many affordable housing projects happening within North Wales throughout 2016 and 2017? The Maes Glanarfon development supported an estimated amount of 300 local jobs by the usage of local companies and materials at every stage of the project – and created a number of jobs, including 4 apprenticeships.
Furthermore, our development in Llanfairfechan also hosted a number of visits from students at Coleg Llandrillo, who picked up valuable site experience that simply can’t be learned from within a classroom. Maes Glanarfon also hosted a series of visits from local primary schools, who planted a special tree to commemorate the completion of this development.
Finally, Maes Glanarfon in Llanfairfechan provided some much-needed affordable housing to the North Wales area and formed an excellent starting point for Cartrefi Conwy’s vision of providing 300 suitable homes across North Wales.
It was an incredible honour to have even been nominated for the LABC Building Excellence Awards. While indeed we’re very proud of Maes Glanarfon and all of the good it has done across North Wales – the LABC Awards are something special indeed. Having our very first social housing project nominated was incredible news – and to found that we’ve won the award is even more incredible!
The LABC Awards in themselves are respected throughout the industry, as they cover a variety of elements associated with construction. Elements included in LABC consideration are high compliance with building regulations, outstanding craftsmanship, technical innovation, sustainability and high performance, the ability to solve technical problems with creative solutions, and the usage of innovation in products and skills to overcome challenging site conditions.
We feel that Maes Glanarfon has been a fantastic project in many respects – providing affordable and quality housing to residents which have already moved in, assisting with the development of the North Wales area, helped students gain experience for the future, and helped funnel funds into North Wales and the excellent suppliers in the region.
