Rhyl Coastal Defence Works
Client: Denbighshire County Council
Duration/Completion: 12 months
Brenig Construction were appointed in January 2014 by Denbighshire County Council to carry out coastal defence works in East Rhyl.
The initial scheme was to replace the existing sea defence wall with “redi-rock” walling and
following on from the success of this scheme Brenig were awarded further stages of work which included –
- Concrete repairs
- Breaking out and construction of new steps leading to the beach
- Removal of promenade railings, carry out concrete repairs and prepare ready for new
- Marshalls barriers
- Pre-cast works in readyness for flood defence gates
All of the above works had to be managed carefully and completed in stages as the Client
wanted to keep as much of the promenade open as possible. The work also needed to be
carefully programmed and monitored due to high tides and the risks associated with these.
